The owners of The Wood Fired Pizza Company always knew their authentic, handmade pizzas were the best – their customers kept telling them so! – but now it’s official.
This family-owned mobile event catering firm just scooped the industry’s top award at the 25th Annual Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Industry Awards (PAPA).
With their gourmet wood fired pizzas, they saw off all of the well-known pizza restaurant and delivery brands to win the much coveted and highly sought after Pizza Chef of the Year 2014 award for the nation’s best pizza.
They won two categories in the regional heats to secure a place in the national cook-off, held at the Lancaster London hotel.
Competing against 30 other competitors, The Wood Fired Pizza Company was selected as Best in Category and Best Overall Pizza of this national competition.
At the glittering PAPA Industry Awards Dinner on 13th November, The Wood Fired Pizza Company’s founder and chef Toni Allen proudly accepted the prestigious award.
This young, exciting company is no stranger to the awards stage – they’ve won many prestigious awards for their innovative use of ingredients, including Pizza Designer of The Year numerous times.
The West Sussex-based company has shown phenomenal growth since Toni launched it just four years ago with her partner Maiko Werner and the help of her father, who founded the first wood fired pizza delivery chain some years before.
Now in partnership with father Russell, a Savoy-trained chef, they have between them more than 20 years’ experience in the wood fired pizza market and have established a brand name synonymous with quality and service.
The Wood Fired Pizza Company’s elegant mobile catering event units are especially designed to give a theatre for the customer to see the pizzaioli toss the dough, the making and cooking of the pizza,
but also to cope with volume serving more than 200 pizzas an hour, straight from the oven to the customer.
They serve their delicious pizzas at major events and festivals including the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the British Open Championship, the London 2012 Olympic Games, the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, summer music festival Bestival, Glorious Goodwood and the huge Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park London, as well as celebrity weddings and society parties around the UK.
Still innovating and ever on top of their game, they’ve now launched their exciting, brand new ‘Slices’ concept onto the market.
With smaller trailers, selling pizza by the slice and with even faster service, The Wood Fired Pizza Company’s ‘Slices’ is aimed at servicing smaller events, including private catering, and medium-high footfall areas in semi-static units.
The target market includes venues such as shopping centres, railway stations, universities and airport lounges, offering the same award-winning, high quality, fast-service product with a difference, making it feasible in these areas.
It looks like the world is their (gourmet, award-winning) pizza!
